The Viajero
What is THIS THING?
The Viajero, aka “the Traveler,” is a 20-inch-wheel Mini Velo with a coupler system to break the frame down for travel. The whole bike fits in a standard 62” suitcase and is well under the 50 lbs (23 kg) weight limit for airline travel (scroll down to see images of the packed bike).
Frame materials: Steel or Titanium
Available as a complete built bike or as a frame set only
Small/Medium: Fits people from about 5’ 1” to 5’ 9”
Large/XL: Fits people from about 5’ 9” and up
The Viajero is designed and constructed Oregon. That means everything — frame construction, light wiring, parts assembly, packing, and shipping out to you.
The frame is specifically built around the Sram AXS drive train. This system has a wireless electronic shifter and derailleur. The reason for this, first, is because the system works incredibly well, and second, without a derailleur cable it simplifies packing the bike. For those who prefer traditional cable derailleur systems there are threaded holes on the down tube for bolt on single, double, or triple cable guides. This makes the frame compatible with pretty much any kind of drive train. If you like internally-geared rear hubs, or single speed and belt drive — all is possible with the Viajero.
Compatibility disclaimer: We do NOT offer custom parts kits. If you’d rather not use the Sram AXS system, it’ll be up to you to choose parts that are compatible and have them installed. We’re happy to answer what questions we can, but we cannot guarantee how well (or if) systems outside of Sram AXS will work. With the smaller wheel size there are a number of complications regarding clearances around the derailleur, cassette, and tire. If you’re trying something new and different, it’s new to us, too. We may not have all the answers, but we commend your efforts for trying!

Titanium
The titanium frame includes a “Z coupler” on the down tube, a seat tube split, “Polydrop” rear dropouts with a belt split (for single speed or internally geared hub builds — ask if you would like more info on this.
The titanium frame has a bead-blasted finish and brushed logo.
Frame Set: $4600
The frame set option includes a carbon fork and a White Industries headset with cups pressed in. The large/XL frame comes with an extra long titanium seat post, the Sm/Med frame comes with a Thomson 410 mm alloy post. All bikes also include the appropriate seat collar.
If you are considering the frame set only option we do recommend adding the optional carbon wheel set, listed below.
Ready-to-ride “Flat” Bar: $7900
Ready-to-ride Drop Bar: $8150
Complete built bikes add a Sram AXS drive train set up with wireless shifting so there are no cables to deal with when breaking down the bike except for the rear brake cable. This build also includes our wheel set and wired front light (either Schmidt “Edelux” or Busch & Muller’s “IQ-X”) and a wired tail light (Schmidt SON seat post mount). The tail light wire is internally routed through the top tube and has plugs appropriate for breaking the frame down for travel.
Steel
The steel frame uses a Reynolds 853 heat treated down tube and chain stays for superb rigidity and includes an S & S down tube coupler, a seat tube split, “Polydrop” rear dropouts with a belt split (for single speed or internally geared hub builds — ask if you would like more info on this)
The steel frame is finished in a single color powder coat of your choice from available color options.
Frame Set: $3350
The steel frame set option includes a carbon fork and a White Industries headset with cups pressed in. The large/XL frame comes with an extra long titanium seat post, the Sm/Med frame comes with a Thomson 410 mm alloy post. All bikes also include the appropriate seat collar.

Additional Options
20” Carbon Wheel Set: $960.
Hand laced in Portland, Oregon. Little wheels are harder to build, so we recommend this for anyone buying a frame set. The wheel set includes bomb-proof carbon rims, double butted spokes, Shutter Precision front generator hub, and a sealed bearing rear hub with a Sram XDR driver (Shimano 9-spline or Micro-spline driver available upon request). If you prefer other hubs, custom options may be available on request — please check with us.
Travel case: $320
This is a hard sided suitcase with handle and roller wheels. It fits the entire bike and is within airline checked bag sizing standards for travel.
Ask us about our recommended travel tool kits for your Viajero.
Handle Bar Options: (Variable)
Handlebar size and style options are available, though some options may alter the price. All complete builds include the appropriate Sram AXS brake levers/shifter combo to match either drop bars or flat handlebars.
OTHER OPTIONS: (noNE)
To reiterate — you can buy the bike complete and ready to ride with the Sram AXS parts kit, or as a frame set only. We are not currently offering custom parts kits. If you would like a kit different from what we offer it will be up to you to order everything and complete the parts assembly with a trusted mechanic at your local bike shop.
The Build Process
With practice, the approximate assembly/disassembly time is around 15-30 minutes. This requires few tools, and only basic mechanical skills.
The Viajero is not trying to be a “quick pack” bike, nor is it a folding bike — what we wanted was a bike that packs down for airline travel but still rides, handles and feels like a “normal” full sized bike.
